Lamb Chop
Not sure where to post this so move it if wrong. After all my problems with the old computer it went up in smoke well not quite.I did back up. I reinstalled off the partition and found that the whole thing was just a corrupted as the original - which leads me to the thought that putting the OS for recovery on the hard drive is a no no.My back up is stuffed too and so started off from scratch with 5 + years of re downloading and hunting for passwords etc as having used Firefox - was spoilt.Lovely computer with 1 GB of memory so had no problems with IE7.Probably what half my problems on the PB were only 256 RAM.Worst thing was waiting for them to make it and send it down from Asia.Must be addicted to this as all the family counted the days saying - cant wait for Mum to get back to normal. :D

Lamb Chop
Thanks - trying to find the best programs I used free and a few paid for is taking up a lot of time and you do not realize how much customizing you have done until you start afresh from day one with nothing but memories. :D

Irene
Thanks - trying to find the best programs I used free and a few paid for is taking up a lot of time and you do not realize how much customizing you have done until you start afresh from day one with nothing but memories. :DOnce you begin using your computer normally again, you'll keep coming across situations which will remind you.Excellent time for a clean sweep, so to speak. A good opportunity to decide if you really need things.I know I sometimes download something because I think it could be useful, then two or three months later I come across it and I can't even remember what it did!! Welcome back anyway. :D
Mike567
I've done the same thing a few times, so I ended up making a DVD of all my programs so if worst comes to worst again I have everything I need to make it what it was.
Lamb Chop
Yes thanks folks - have Avast, SuperAntiSpyware, and have found another real time free protection which super does not have in free edition called BOClean by Comodo and it is easy to use and have a good review too. Have Zone alarm as firewall although Comodo is no 1. Easy to use my excuse.Must tell you that I downloaded Zone Alarm which comes with Anti virus and anti spyware in a 30mb package and thought oh well have bundled MaAfee Anti Virus But it didn't update when activated so was bit suspicious and took the 15 day trial on the ZA package. Meantime got Avast down ready. :D Good job as 2 days into trial the Anti Virus failed, did warn me and I was just booting up and not on line and quickly got Avast up and running and uninstalled and reinstalled only ZA firewall before connecting. Phew. Bit naughty if I hadn't had Avast in the wings waiting eh Irene - know exactly what you mean - I keep my unused programs in completed downloads folder and now and again go thru them same as you. have to open and check what is is too! I have a folder for programs I use and will do as advised and make a CD just in case once I have got the lot. I have this program bundled called Roxio creator which is good for making CD's free but if you want to back up need to buy it.Backing up is a whole new thing I failed with mine. Seems to be hard as many dont until they wish they had. Not easy programs to use. Happy days. :D am going to trawl thru forum to see what else I need - get good ideas right here.
