New Update at Microsoft

Hi guys - have rolled back IE7 and need to get 2 updates for my computer but the blooming computer wont let me have them without trying to add on IE7 again.

I tried custom and then taking only two but it just wouldn't let me do that. Go to install and it was 3.

So tried this for a while kept coming on same.

So thought let it install two I want then dont take IE7 but that didnt work as although it was 3rd in line it installed it first and then when I had to cancel - got neither of the ones I do want which are Q944338 and Q947864.

Its like the computer knows I am dodging its blooming awful IE7 and is determined to give it to me.

Also you cant contact anyone there either.

Its a conspiracy of shocking proportions - bet there are millions out there all trying to avoid IE7 :lol:

As I have said before MS if not user friendly.

It also tried to geet me to turn on Auto again but I wont until I can hide IE blooming (image red here) 7 :censored:

I don't know how you do these things - they seem not to happen to other people!

You should be able to uncheck any update you don't want; can you give us a screenshot to show how you are unable to uncheck updates?

I am not kidding Pat - I tried today and over the last day or so and cant get it to hide anymore.

check as it has changed. :D

Here's one way, just to get you going. Youll need a photo editor package - Irfanview will do nicely.

So first step is to get the screen up that you want to copy.

Press the Prt Scr button usually near the top right of your keyboard. This puts a copy of your present screen onto your clipboard.

Open your image editor.

Press

Edit, Paste. and voila there is a copy of your screen that you can save, edit post etc.

There are other ways e.g. I use Winsnap but at least you should be able to start playing.

One word of warning. When posting images keep the picture to a reasonable size, otherwise some images might be too big and people would have to scroll around to see what they were. I suggest that you restrict yourself to 600 x 480. You can re-size using Irfan view.

You can do a screen shot of the active window, by holding down the "Alt" key and touching "Prt Sc".

If you then open mspaint, touch Edit and then Paste. you will have your screen shot.

You will then need to give it a name and save it to say, My Pictures. :D

P.S. As Doug says, you will probably need to resize the picture.

I use PIXresizer.

I find that I can pick and choose my updates to suit myself with no problems at all. I would be very surprised of there were millions trying to avoid IE 7. :D

I don't see anything different - it looks the same to me. Also, the WU (WindowsUpdate) version hasn't changed recently.

OK went to get that screen shot and guess what.

I found that the 2 updates I wanted were there.

Now the reason I had the problem was that I didnt notice with the anxiety to avoid IE7 again that they had already been downloaded. Must have been prior to me turning off auto updates.

Last time earlier today I installed as I said the 3 and first cab off the rank was IE7 and it got as far as the screen showing where it says install or not install and I didnt.

So that must have activated it being no longer there when I went just now.

Still I do thank you as I now can do a screen shot.

bear with me - its my 70th year and I think the senior moments are starting to get a bit of a problem.

some days have to ask myself what day it is and now we only get The Bill double on Saturdays - I miss out a bit.
