Computer Running Really Slowly, Suspect Spyware

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

My laptop is running really slowly, takes ages to boot up, ages to load programs such as firefox and other stuff. I have run avg through it and cleaned the stuff that avg found out, but my computer is still running slowly. Does anyone know any decent anti-spyware programs.

I have also posted a HijackThis log for you to see and give me any recommendations.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

You really need to update your version of Java ! Yours is Version 5 Update 3

Get the latest version (Version 6 Update 5) from here http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Then remove the older version through "Add or Remove Programs"

One reason for your laptop running slowly is that although you have AVG running as your A/V - you also still appear to have residual Norton (Symantec) services running (and using resources)l.

Download the Norton Removal tool from the link below to remove them

ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_...emoval_Tool.exe

Save the file to the Windows desktop.

On the Windows desktop, double-click the Norton Removal Tool icon.

Follow the on-screen instructions.

Your computer may be restarted more than once, and you may be asked to repeat some steps after the computer restarts.

SpywareTerminator

When it installs it'll give the option of including Clam AntiVirus, don't bother with it. When the installation is finished go to Internet protection and immunise, then run a full spyware scan.

Can you run this one with Super Anti Spyware? I run that right now with Spyware Blaster and Winpatrol.

Do I need another as some say yes and some say no.

Guest Day There

I feel the problem is with your start up programs. You seem to have too many programs either from Start up or from Registry \ Run or Run once section. You may like to try System Mechanic from Iolo Technologies (try the older versions than the latest bloated ones) and remove stuff from starting up along with your computer booting. As your PC starts, it should not have more than 30 processes for decent performance.

Winpatrol is a free program and it has real time scanning and it also controls stuff like start up - you can delay start ups on it so that you zip into the start with only those you need now.

It has a lot of other stuff too which I am working thru.

Worth a look. Someon on this forums said to get it and I love it as it is better than my previous start up program.
