Alan2273
I have just tried this and I have my doubts about it.After the defrag it free about 17% of diskspace, then I ran Crap Cleaner registry clean up and it found 243 redundant entries, which I deleted.I have had no problems yet but I have a full back up of the registry just in case. -pops-
I'm never sure what registry cleaners actually do. On the rare occasions I have tried one, it has made little or no difference to the performance of the machine and, with the inherent risks involved in mucking about in the registry (and knowing the damage these cleaners are reputedly able to do), I leave well alone. andsome
I don't fancy it thanks. The only thing I let near to my registry is C Cleaner, and it has NEVER EVER caused a problem. :D

Alan2273
Thanks for that explanation Pat, but when i run the CC reg cleaner it generally finds up to 30 entries not 230, which is why i said I had doubts about it.
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
That's rather interesting! Maybe the rearranging of reg entries created more redundancies.Anyway, I leave my registry well alone, and I certainly won't let anything that is only v1.1 handle it. If I'd feel a sudden urge to reorg my registry, then I would use NTREGOPT, which has a very long history.

PorPorMe
I use Registry Booster 2. Quick and dedicated to a single job. Clean and defrag the registry. I like it. Wouldn't use anything else.
Dencandy
Pat Willener, the NTREGOPT link you gave seems to be a dead-end.
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Thanks, Dencandy - looks like Lars let his website lapse. There are plenty of alternate downloads, e.g.http://www.majorgeeks.com/NTREGOPT_d4824.htmlhttp://www.snapfiles.com/get/ntregopt.htmlhttp://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Registr.../NTRegOpt.shtmlhttp://www.download.com/NTREGOPT/3640-2086_4-10549462.htmletc.
erika83smith
I agree with Andsome.. I only trust C Cleaner.. Computers r way to expensive.. And the reg can make or break ur computer, I will always only use C Cleaner.. They have an option to use without installing it so if u r tight on space C Cleaner is definitely the only way to go.. When I was just getting to know computers I used Advance System Care.. They have never messed up my computer and they have a great uninstaller app that comes with it along with reg fix and several others.. But after finding C Cleaner a while ago I'll never go bck.. They cleaned so many things that Advanced System Care had missed and their absolutely free.. With ASC u have to pay to get the best out of it and that version still doesn't do as good as CCleaner..
