If reading any of the extracts from the current spate of political memoirs (Cherie Blair, Levy, Prescott) makes you feel depressed and cynical when you consider the greed, dishonesty and self-centredness of our politicians, and if you feel yourself losing faith in human nature, reading this might help restore it. It's about the courage shown by a remarkable Polish woman, Irena Sendler, who helped save the lives of 2,500 Jewish children in wartime Poland. It may help restore your faith in human kindness.

Obviously a truly wonderful person. Personally, I have always had faith in humanity as a whole. It is the absolute rogues who get under my skin, and MOST politicians come under this banner. Religious nutters also annoy me, with the way that they try to force their views on others. The worst thing of all is religious zealots who also happen to be politicians.
