I would say that for the good they do these figures prove just how over paid they are right now....without "allowances".

I didn't know that MP's can claim 40p a mile (up to 10,000 miles) in expenses and 25p after that.

With such 'allowances', I doubt if they cut down on car use (to help save the environment) as they make money out of it!

A litre of petrol can do a lot more than 3 miles and so the expenses should be more realistic.

Where I used to work, if people used their own transport for the business, they were only allowed 10p a mile in allowances.

40p is quite normal as a mileage allowance.

It's intended to cover other running costs, e.g. tax, insurance, repairs, depreciation etc.

Your 10p a mile was outrageous!! :0

Some companies will also grade the mileage rate to the engine size; which is fair enough I suppose.
