Take a screen-shot if possible & post it on this thread.There can be many reasons for your computer running slow at start up & shut down. Have you run a deep scan with your anti-virus and anti-malware programmes? If not you could try one of the free on-line scanners such as ESET/NOD32 here: http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/. Before you connect dissable any existing anti-virus or anti-malware programmes but NOT your firewall. It may take a few hours to complete if you have a lot of programmes and viruses. When it finishes it will tell you if you have any infections on your machine and will explain how to remove them.If you are interested in getting you computer running well & can put some time & patience into doing it, have a look at this website called Optimize XP: http://home.comcast.net/~SupportCD/OptimizeXP.html. Run an online virus scan such as Trend Micro's housecall in addition to your normal anti virus software. If you do not have anti virus, a good place to start is with a free one, such as ClamWin.
