She has a new Dell Vista desktop PC and has ordered her telephone and broadband from BT. She tells me that BT will provide a wireless home hub - whatever that may mean. Her computer will not be in the same room as the incoming telephone connection socket.I have been asked to get her up and running but being a long term Telewest cable user I have never had the chore of setting up ASDL broadband. I assume she will need to buy a wireless adapter for her PC and note that BT sell one that simply plugs into a USB port and looks a bit like a memory stick.Can anyone advise me in simple language the steps I will need to take to get the BT broadband modem installed and working on a wireless connection. Will I need to first connect to the computer by ethernet to set up the router and then set up the wireless connection - or can it be done in one hit.I assume that BT will provide a CD for any software required to be installed on her computer. As to whether you can then do some more conjuring....well? Presumably if you set up SID and WEP on the router and then unplug and fit the wireless card and set SID and WEP for that you may get away with it.I am on a BT wireless router but I have it connected to the computer by wire. Watchful Posted June 25, 2008 Report Share Posted June 25, 2008 BT do supply a set-up disk and the hub (which has 4 sockets altogether) that I have is plugged into the mains, via adapter, and directly into the processor and also into the telephone filter (two are provided).
