yod Posted June 25, 2008 Report Share Posted June 25, 2008 Hi,I've been going round in circles for a few hours now trying to sort my sisters laptop , she has nearly no space left (7%) on her hard drive so was trying to clean it up for her. So went to disk-defragmenter to start off but have run into problems.When trying to analyze the c: it was coming up with the message “C: might be corrupt run chkdsk /f ” I scheduled it and restarted the laptop so it could run it ran it but it found nothing wrong, so went back into disk defragmenter and tried analyzing the c: again but did nothing and then came up with the message "The connection to the defragmenter engine has been lost"I’m stuck as what to do next, could some one please advise me? But I have a question: its listed all the things it will clear now some of these are cookies, temporary files etc which is fine but some appear to be some word fies and pics. now she isn't here for me to ask but will these files be duplicates and previous deleted files or might they be current files on her c:? Often when creating a word document, you will find a hidden file with the same name with a tilde in front of it.For example, I am working on something called work.doc. Windows will create a temporary file called ~work.doc as a "live backup" so that if my computer was to crash, I could recover this file. Once you click save, all changes in ~work.doc are written to work.docI've used CCleaner for years, and have used Defraggler since 1.0 BETA. I recommend and use both of them. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted June 26, 2008 Report Share Posted June 26, 2008 I would not clean cookies at the first run; there are probably many cookies (for website login, etc.) that your sister may want to keep, so cookie cleaning should be configured (Options | Cookies) before actually run.
