I'm fairly sure it's a beeper. They are usually fitted on the collection of headers that are placed bottom, right of the motherboard - the manual should indicate where.

However, some motherboards, especially ASUS ones, don't have a beeper header (I've had several like that) but the beeper is supplied in the pack of bits as a matter of course. I suppose they just produce a standard pack of accessories.

If your machine is going OK without the thingy, leave it out.

unless you want your pc to make beeping sounds again ^^ (can be usefull when broken, but most of the time just annoying. i think that's also the reason why it looks like some plugin device, and not some nice speaker which you can hide in the case front.) :P

haha, ok

thanks

does anyone also know how the male connector for this [female] device looks like?

As pops said there is usually a cluster of pokey uppy things in one corner of the MB. On to some of these you will have connected various things, some of which are the GO button, front panel connections, speaker connectors etc.

There are usually marking on/near them, for which you may need a magnifying glass, which will indicate which is for what, if you can decipher it.

thanks for the help guys!

just to comfort you: i wont connect it ;)

the primary reason i got back on this, was because i found this awesome Bleeper Music Maker program, which uses the beeper device to make music, which is rather cool ;)

Low temperature can be serious if you feel the cold. You said it was cool, so I enquired as to how cool it was. Please reply in degrees Celsius. :D
