jparker1390 Posted July 6, 2008 Report Share Posted July 6, 2008 I am getting a new computer, and i want to know whether i should buy vista or if it would be alright to use XP.is XP going to be phased out in the near future? i don't want to spend the money on XP then have to buy Vista soon after because software and games no longer support XP.What are your guys' thoughts? Thanks in advance.It is now wide spread knowledge that Microsoft have decided to continue with XP support to 2013. This has been said on many Forums. I think Microsoft have come to realise that many businesses have turned away from Vista, indeed some have not even bothered to try Vista because of the bad press it has been getting.Whether you should buy XP or Vista is a matter of taste to you. andsome Posted July 7, 2008 Report Share Posted July 7, 2008 If I was in the market for a new computer I would avoid ALL of the brand names, and have one built by a local computer builder with XP installed. I would not want all the rubbish that comes pre installed on commercial makes, or the dedicated operating systems. Dencandy Posted July 8, 2008 Report Share Posted July 8, 2008 There have been several discussions about this topic on this forum and one thread is HERE.It seems to me Vista was developed as a stop-gap between XP and Windows 7 (Vienna - due out as a Beta fairly soon). I'm told Vista has wonderful graphic capabilities & is liked by some graphic designers and serious photographers. But some users have purchased Vista &, because of the problems they have with it, are now downgrading back to XP.Since SP3 came out XP is now pretty reliable and stable & my guess is that it's likely to be around for another 20 years because so many users & businesses are now dependent on it. Windows 7 will need to be more stable & reliable to make established XP users permanently switch over to it. If Microsoft past performance is anything to go by, that will take several years to achieve.If I were buying a new computer now I would ask for Windows XP + SP3 plus the biggest hard disk I could get and enough RAM capability for at least 1 GB of re-writable memory (for an upgrade to Vienna).
