Alan2273 Posted July 20, 2008 Report Share Posted July 20, 2008 This one has me stumped.A friend asked me to look at his computer, as the search box, (selected from start/search), is incomplete.A lot of the buttons are missing, I have managed to get a screen-shot.He is running XP Home SP3, Avira antivirus and Comodo firewall.I got him to do an online scan but nothing showed up.Any thoughts on how to get the search function up and running again would be appreciated. Alan2273 Posted July 20, 2008 Author Report Share Posted July 20, 2008 pops, no backup available, system restore and XP repair did not cure the problem.Irene, Kellys corner solution did not cure it, and another solution, running sfc /scannow asked him for a XP SP3 CD, so of to his house I went again with my SP3 CD, when it loaded it said that it was not the original installation source (Agggghhh), and to put the correct CD in, although it wanted to install SP3 from that CD.
