On the down side the scan speed isn't that quick and the default settings aren't ideal, so it's well worth going through the options menu thoroughly and tweaking to your own preference.I still prefer avast!, but if you're looking for an alternative I think it's worthy of consideration. They have started submitting it to VirusBulletin and while it's passed so far it's not been around long enough to acquire a track record of any note. Several of the best software packages have been plagued by these creeps :- OpenOffice, avast! & IrfanView to name but a few. Another note is the cop-out rider they usually stick on the bottom of the page in extremely small grey print."This website has no affiliation whatsoever with the owner of these software programs, and provides only links to the software programs. This software may be obtained freely" It must be said however that Rising don't help themselves as the normal website makes no reference to the free version and even knowing what to look for googling the main free version site isn't easy. If it wasn't for Snapfiles, Major Geeks etc, I doubt I'd even know about it.I'd also suggest reading the user reviews on McaAfee SiteAdvisor rather than simply relying on the green color coding, unfortunately the system these scammers use bypasses the siteadvisor checks as they're not spamming you and the download link itself is to the original clean product so rather too many of them get a green pass rating for what is essentially a rip-off. McAfee only tells us about reported spammers, malware & links to other bad sites, not about plain and simple rip-offs where you pay for something that may be free elsewhere.
