AlanHo
Have a good look round and try to find the point of entry. :DNot only have I spend quite a time looking - I got a builder in to have a go. The means of entry is not clear - the best guess is that somehow they are getting into the wall cavity then into the space between the bedroom floorboards and first floor ceiling. From here there are small apertures where pipes enter the rooms and perhaps gaps under the skirting boards. I am tackling each room, one by one, to seal every possible gap. However - the kitchen units are quite another matter. I had granite worktops fitted 3 years ago and it will be a fairly major job to dismantle the kitchen. No mice found yesterday or today - fingers crossed. Watchful
Borrow someone's cat.....it will soon sniff out the point of entry and will wait patiently until a mouse appears B) We had mice a couple of times in the past but the cats soon sorted it. I would prefer the mice, at least they are more likely to keep to the floor.
catgate
Our last house was an old farmhouse, over in the Skipton area (the sort with a built-on barn attachment) and we had a mouse problem, until I tried one of those electronic ultra sound devices. That was a revelation. We did occasionally get the odd one, even with that running, but they seemed to be mentally disturbed by it, to the extent that it was no problem to catch them with a trap. Sometimes they were so discombobulated that if you disturbed one, just a clout with a slipper, as it slowly went throught the drunked motions of trying to escape, was sufficient to exterminate another one. Last year I bought an electronic device that plugged into a 13 amp socket and was claimed to be the perfect deterrent. The mice ignored it and I found that it caused a whistle in my hearing aids - so chucked it out.

No problem. Can't speak about electronic devices...no experience there, or with hearing-aids, but, I'm well on the way....pardon? :D

Could you round up all the mice, fit them with hearing aids, resurrected your electronic device and turn it on at full whack. If it did not get rid of them you would at least feel that you had incommoded them for a while.

Mark143
Hello everyone,Here Im sharing my experience,Keeping a field mouse as a pet sounds like a good idea, but a field mouse is a wild animal different thing from a white mouse you buy at the store. If you catch a mouse and put it in a cage or aquarium or whatever, it will probably just sit there. One of the guys in my dorm caught one and I saw it once; the thing just sat there for days, and would not eat. I think it finally starved to death. The other thing about a field mouse is that if it sees any opportunity, it will try to escape. They are very fast and can jump surprisingly high and with a lot of force, so chances are fairly high it will get out. And then it's loose in your house and you are back to square one. -pops-
I borrowed a friendly neighbourhood Norfolk Terrier to deal with the mice in my outhouses this year. They are meant to be ratters but they make very good mousers as well.My own dog just sits and looks at mice.Despite their benign teddy bear appearance, these dogs are vicious rodent killers but very friendly otherwise.
