Hb_Kai Posted December 16, 2008 Report Share Posted December 16, 2008 I was asked earlier how Furby's, and little kids toys and other stuff save the sound files or whatever when the toys are turned off...I suggested it might be EEPROM, would this be right?I know a specific type of EEPROM is used for larger memory storage devices, but I don't know with tiny pieces of hardware like toys, etc.. Any sort of EPROM is unnecessary.As the stored information is fixed for any particular toy, this can be stored in a PROM which is programmed at the manufacturing stage of the toy.A PROM is normally lower cost than an EPROM or EEPROM.My feelings about Furbys is that the inventor, manufacturer and marketing company should be tied up and locked in a room with 1,000 of the damnable things - all having fresh batteries.
