Lamb Chop Posted January 12, 2009 Author Report Share Posted January 12, 2009 Yes good idea Ansome B) Pops I will stick with Firefox too - have 3 currently it is even better than ever - love the star at the end of the address bar click and it is saved to bookmarks etc or on the URL and tells you if it is good site with certificate etc or encryption etc. :lol: Someone told me the reason Firefox is so good is that it is open source - which I think means anyone can download a beta and send back feedback bit like I did with Secunia and this way the bugs get fixed quicker than M$ which is closed. Lamb Chop Posted January 12, 2009 Author Report Share Posted January 12, 2009 I have changed to notify but don't download - so this will stop me getting IE8 and I haven't even got IE7.WinPatrol did its job as it popped up to tell me a change had been made and did I want to keep it or go back to auto update. I had a lot of trouble with automatic updates freezing part way through or going into endless loops, so I disabled it completely. The download notification newsletter is sent out weekly by MS & gives you information about all new MS downloads, including Office & betas. If a special patch is sent out they will also send a special email to inform you. It's free and is available HERE. You can then choose which downloads to install - e.g. I don't believe that the Malicious Software Removal Tool is "essential" if you've got good anti-virus & anti-malware utilities & a proper firewall.
