After never getting any for over 5 year with my ISP - suddenly it is raining emails offering me penis enlargements, Viagra, cheap drugs, and lottery winnings of hundred or millions of dollars all for the want of sending them my life details for them to steal.Now being a cynical senior I find this onslaught of spam may just be linked to the fact my ISP is now asking for me to pay extra every month to employ their spam filter and extra for anti virus so I may expect virus's to arrive do you think?My email programs has a bounce and block which I have been using and now after a short time have hundreds blocked but they continue to arrive.Greed and Profit rule PS my anti virus program is Avast and very good so may already be blocking for all I know Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I always have suspected ISP's to do this, but I'm not sure if they're allowed to be sending anything which is of a nature somebody may be offended by, but if so it would probably definetely be to squeeze your money out of you to get their new spam filters.The viagra spam and everything else though makes me think that it would be someone's found your email address and posted it on spam forums. Then they blocked spam. I use the hotmail for most sites. No these are coming in on my ISP account, they are not addressed to my private email account but all different addresses and even isps IE noreply@dlm and stuff like that. Mail washer found them and put them into the black list, but they were still an irritation, and an infringement of my privacy. My e mail address at that time was [email protected], very easy for auto spammers to pick up. I went to the ISP's website and changed it to something much more unlikely to be picked up by auto spammers. A simple e mail to all my friends and contacts, and since then I have not had a single one. I no longer have any need for Mail washer. :D Best of luck. Like; [email protected], [email protected], abc.... and then [email protected], [email protected] and just go through them all.. That's what I thought anyway. I am thinking of throwing it down the toilet! My email programs has a bounce and block ...Please do not "bounce" email. You actually cannot bounce mail, only mail servers can do that. But some spam filter create fake bounces, which in 99.9% never go back to the spammer, but to the innocent 3rd party whose email address was forged into the spam. I was once the victim of such a forged mail address, and I got thousands of such fake bounces, as well as real mail server bounces (which is equally stupid as fake bounces, b.t.w.). Lamb Chop Posted January 19, 2009 Author Report Share Posted January 19, 2009 So I am not being suspicious that this spam is arriving when now that it is profitable for the ISP to have me pay to block it.Maybe I should try reporting them to the Ombudsman - got a good response before when I had a problem with the same ISPPat - I will just block the sender and stop bouncing then :D Most of them are scams - two lottery tickets I never bought have won today - as if - plus more cheap drugs. Lamb Chop Posted January 19, 2009 Author Report Share Posted January 19, 2009 I will go and see if anyone else is having the problem on our ISP forum for Australia - just thought of it when your message arrived.Mine is not a popular one but I started with them and frankly too lazy to churn as others have as bad a rep anyway. My biggest problem and most others were 24 hours or more wait for tech but since they moved it up to Malaysia - instant almost and very good - actually better - sad to say for our workers who lost their jobs. This is a business that needs close monitoring and constant updating, as spammers are steadily increasing their output, and constantly coming up with new tricks to bypass filters.My ISP has started charging for filtering some two years ago, very little - some ¥200 a month. I get about 1 spam message per year that gets through.Now if only my cell phone provider would do the same - I would gladly pay some small amount for all that spam to go away. Turns out there was some sort of update to Spam Assassin that cause it to stop working on my server, so there was no server email filtering. If you agree, pass it on.or however. That annoys me. It's showing no attempt at actually trying to help out, it's just annoying people. But I only get that in Hotmail.Just so you know, mail.com doesn't do much about blocking spam as I've found out today after logging in the first time in a couple weeks. In a big way.The first time that a chain e mail is sent to me, I contact the sender and tell them that I NEVER EVER forward either chain letters or chain e mails. They usually don't bother again.
