poolmon Posted January 28, 2009 Report Share Posted January 28, 2009 IMMEDIATELY after installing Windows automatic update for "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 " (which includes a new printer driver for Microsoft "XPS" file print to file option) my CPU keeps cycling its resources to wmiprvse.exe every few seconds (about 10% usage). From what I read on various sites, a partially uninstalled printer driver or an unexecuted print job command can cause this problem, so I checked all printers for pending jobs and there are none and the only driver change was this newly installed one from Microsoft. This new update is not capable of being uninstalled and a System Restore was not able to execute itself sucessfully to a prior point. Any suggestions on this problem caused by this latest update pushed to me yesterday by Microsoft. My guess it involves the XPS print driver that the update installed but Add/Remove Programs lists it as not uninstallable. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
-pops- Posted January 28, 2009 Report Share Posted January 28, 2009 There is something very wrong with this update and there are lots of complaints and comments on other forums - and to me about it.It seems to be yet another case of MS issuing stuff before it's been tested for universal acceptance - or even on the majority of computers.My suggestion to you, if possible is try a System Restore in Safe Mode to a time before you downloaded this turkey or as a last resort, restore from a backup. My guess it involves the XPS print driver that the update installed but Add/Remove Programs lists it as not uninstallable.I had that problem as well and had to use system restore to get my PC back to normal.I've since selected the hide option to make sure it isn't downloaded and installed again since I have my PC set up to automatically download and install them.
