peter123123123 Posted February 18, 2009 Report Share Posted February 18, 2009 Hello. About a year ago i was playing a racing game and occasionally the left or right keys would appear stuck. They weren't actually stuck. It would last for a few seconds and then stop. Thinking it was a keyboard fault i bought a new one - same problem. So i bought a new motherboard. The problem persisted. The problem only went away when i installed a new hard drive, signifying it was a software error.Now this problem has come back and I'm determined to find the cause. There are posts all over the internet with the same problem but no one has a clue. I've discovered that it happens with the a and d keys. To me, it doesn't sound like an accident that a random bug could cause this symptom for only a, d, left and right. So I'm starting to wonder if it's a virus. It only happens in games, and it's the same for other people.The games aren't overloading my PC; I've got 3GB of RAM and a 2.4GHz core duo CPU.I'll answer some obvious questions before they're asked.No the keys are definitely not getting stuck. This is the third keyboard that I've used while having the error.Yes sticky keys are turned off.It's not a game fault. Are the buttons getting "stuck" the most used buttons for the game?And often when you use the same buttons simultaneously this does happen.Other than that I can only think it might be something to do with the port you plug your keyboard into. I'm trying to do so many things at once and it's not working.I don't know then other than the port you put your keyboard in. -pops- Posted February 18, 2009 Report Share Posted February 18, 2009 Computer games are a complete unknown to me but, am I right in thinking that the keys which are giving problems are those which are used most frequently for navigating the whatever-it-is around the screen?If they are, does this effect happen immediately when you change to a new keyboard or does it develop over a longer (or shorter) period of time?What sort of quality keyboards are you using? I just played a game and it started doing it to w and s, so i'm guessing it's doing it for every other key as well. I spent hours trying to generate the stickiness, but it seems completely random.I think i remember last time it happening while typing, so it might not be game related.Anyway, if you really want to know; first keyboard - £15, second keyboard - £10, third keyboard - £50. The problem was similar to yours - sticking keys etc. but of a more random nature as to which key(s) failed.What it turned out to be was the fact that instead of a gentle tapping of the keys, he was giving them a hefty thump each time.Could this be the problem you're having here where, in the "excitement" of the game, you are hitting the keys more violently than needs be? For one thing, the first time it happened 1 or 2 years ago, the problem started out of no where and stopped for no apparent reason. -pops- Posted February 19, 2009 Report Share Posted February 19, 2009 If the keys are damaged from over-use, mis-use or whatever then the fault will show on them whatever they are subsequently used for.Don't guess if the other keys are affected, check them.Am I correct in assuming that the specific keys you say are affected are the ones most frequently used in game playing ? Please please please listen to this.The last time it happened i bought a brand new keyboard. The same problem was there.Don't guess if the other keys are affected, check them.You try pressing all the keys on your keyboard repeatedly for 1hr+. I couldn't even regenerate the problem with the keys that are doing it, let alone any other key.I'm sorry i'm not going to reply to any suggestions of it being my keyboard. The PSU converts AC current to DC.Your computer runs, so the C part (current) must be working. Therefore it stands to sense that it is the A and the D that are at fault within the PSU. Hb_Kai Posted February 19, 2009 Report Share Posted February 19, 2009 I can't see there being any other problem this may be if it's happening with other games for other people rather than the games causing the trouble.I play a lot of games, usually where the W, A S, D, SPACE and R are more typically used than any other and I've never had any of these problems. The only similar problem I've ever had is I had a little bit a tobacco spill all over my keyboard. Well it was more major than little. But anyway.
