Argonil Posted February 27, 2009 Report Share Posted February 27, 2009 Hello.I'm using Vista Ultimate, and i've done that for a long time. I have the very good Windows Media player 11, and it's worked fine until a couple of days ago. I did not install anything or do anything to corrupt it...Whenever i enter Windows Media Player 11, it shuts down and an error message follows: Windows Media Player 11 has stopped working and was closed.Also, every time i start my PC up, i get an error saying: Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service stopped working and was closed.I've tryet alot to fix it, including reinstalling, but this is not possible, since Microsoft haven't included WMP11 in the Programs and Features place in Control panel. I've tryet downloading it again, and to reinstall it, but it says i have the newer version so i cannot repair/uninstall. There is no never install on the net.Now, i'm here.../Edit, i can enter the Media Player from it's original location (C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe) and view my albums, etc, but when i try to play a song (Any song) it shuts down with the mentioned error.Cheers, Desperate Argonil. Dencandy Posted February 28, 2009 Report Share Posted February 28, 2009 You should be able to uninstall Media Player from Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs (it's listed under Windows M_P_). After you've uninstalled it make sure the Show Updates box at the top is ticked, then look for any Media Player updates, etc. and remove them as well.Finally, after you've uninstalled everything relevant, go to the Microsoft website and download a new copy, plus updates etc afterwards. Rather than uninstalling it there should be a Repair option somewhere. Try that as it will set the WMP settings back to default rather than re-installing it sometimes doesn't do this. catgate Posted March 6, 2009 Report Share Posted March 6, 2009 I am surprised you have room on your computer for any applications with all that lot on.It makes me wonder if you are getting interaction between two or more of your "guards". Try turning them all off and seeing if your problem goes away. I fit does, then reload them, one at a time, and see which is the problem one. AlanHo Posted March 7, 2009 Report Share Posted March 7, 2009 I believe that Windows Media Player is an intrinsic part of Vista Ultimate and cannot be removed on its own. That is why it is not included in the list of programmes that can be removed.If you do not have a full back-up of your system to restore from - make sure your data is backed up on a separate hard drive or suitable removeable media and then reinstall Vista from scratch from your original DVD. This may take you a couple of hours or so - but is likely to be quicker than hours of fruitless fiddling.I see you are using a programme called Advanced Registry Optimizer - can you be sure that this is not the source of your woes - I would never use a programme that fiddles with the registry. If it aint broke - why fix it.Also - as catgate mentioned - you seem to be rather overloaded with anti malware stuff which can cause conflicts and corruption. I have used just AVG Free anti virus and Windows Defender for a year now on my Vista Ultimate computer and have never had an infection.
