Hey, anyone have ideas for new programs? Post them here!

My idea: Windows RAR Opener.

Description: Open RAR files without having to download RAR openers like WinRAR(even though WinRAR is still awesome)!

Nothing, in fact I want less as I'm sick of this everything but the kitchen sink approach leaving you with giga bytes of crap you're never going to use. They should produce the new windows as a bare bones operating system that really minimizes resource use and absolutely flies. If they want to provide additional optional modules that you can install if you want fine, but I'd much rather have fast, focused and secure than bloated and overcomplicated with built in security weaknesses.

Rather than using WinRAR, there is also WinZip. Don't know if this is with any versions of Windows anymore, but it could be.

I'd prefer to be using Ubuntu for just about everything I do with Windows. If it wasn't for Windows reducing the amount of games I could play on there then I wouldn't be using it at all.

I'm with Bela on this. Windows contains far, far too much "added value" - much like the computers of some years ago which were supplied with £X,000 worth of software FREE.

Windows is supposed to be an operating system but, over the years things have been added to it to make it "all things to all men" but, like all of these multi-tool devices it becomes nothing to anybody.

Look at the current versions of Windows. There is an optical disk burner but people still buy Nero. There is Media Player but people still use independents. There is IE but more and more people use Firefox/Chrome or any other of a large variety of browsers. Who uses Wordpad, the word processor installed as part of Windows? A lot of people aren't even aware of its existence. This is just a few as examples. The biggest fault in all of this is that a lot (most) of these are not Microsoft developments but are cut down (thus read inferior) versions of much better commercial programs so anyone keen on using whatever add-on there is installed will get the original program anyway.

There is also the fact that the more stuffing and bilge in almost anything you can mention will interfere in its efficient operation. Taking unnecessary add-ons out of Windows will increase its efficiency enormously. I recall someone at another place made Windows modifications and removed nearly all the bloat - result, an almost unrecognisably fast system. Microsoft should take note.

Oh yes, the mighty flecc. Now there was a chap that knew his way round a PC, not seen or heard any posts from him for some time, last I remember he was playing around with HyperOS.
