Laser Printer Toner Savings

Recommended Posts

I have an OKI C5650 colour laser printer which has proved to be an excellent buy. It is fast and produces good quality prints.

To date I have always bought genuine replacement toner cartridges - but the credit crunch has hit home and I looked for economies.

A couple of months ago I decided to try a toner refill kit and it has proved to be the equal of the genuine thing - in the case of the OKI printer - requiring the minimum of DIY skills to implement.

The cost of one colour toner replacement averages :-

Genuine OKI colour cartridges £60.

Compatible cartridges £36

A bottle of toner plus replacement electronic chip £15.75

I imagine similar savings are possible with other printers.

To avoid being accused of posting spam I will not post a link to my supplier - but Google for toner refills and you have a choice.

I've been refilling toner cartridges for a long time - black ones only.

I have saved loads of money by doing this.

Be aware, though, that the cartridges have a finite lifespan of about 6 - 8 reloads before they begin to fail. Even so, the savings on buying original new cartridges each time is enormous.

I also use toner refills and after many reloads the print quality has dropped, so i bought a new drum for the cartridge and next refill it'll be fitted and hopefully the ancient cartridge will be back up to scratch.

I have also tried refiling ink cartridges and rapidly came to the conclusion that it's messy and a really futile exercise.
