Thought for today - 2 August

Here in Japan vending machines are ubiquitous; every corner has a couple of drink vending machines, and cigarette machines are not much rarer.

I never heard of a machine not givig correct change; in fact they would automatically shut down if there isn't enough change in it.

Some people - myself included - sometimes just use them to get change for a ¥1,000 bill. These machines are extremely reliable.

Whilst in Cornwall last month we parked in a short stay car park where you had to pre-pay via a ticket vending machine.

The parking fee was £1.10 for 1 hour and £2.10 for 2 hours and the machine did not give change.

One of the locals told me that the council had put the parking fees up by 10p (from £1 and £2) a few weeks ago as a cynical ploy to increase revenue because all too often people lacked the required exact change and put an extra £1 in.

"Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine."

In the location where I work, I know that my colleagues would whole heartedly agree.

I thought that bad language was forbidden on the forum.
