Coreper
Does anyone know if some sort of application exists which can shutdown the computer when a certain window is closed? This is how it should work:1. A window is opened, showing progress of a certain action.2. The window closes, because the progress is complete.3. The special application notices that the window is closed, and shuts down Windows.I'm looking for a application which can do that on Windows Vista [x64].Please let me know if you know a certain program... Hb_Kai
So you want a program that can monitor the task of another program and once the program finishes its task, your PC will be shut down?If so, I think this would have to be something written into the source code of your program you want to be monitored - but there may be something. There are on the other hand, already programs with such functionality - stuff like defragmenting programs, virus scanners, etc.And with a lot of them types of programs, there are always free alternatives which somebody will surely be able to help you with here? Dencandy
This might help, Coreper, but you'll have to experiment it bit as it doesn't exactly fit the criteria you describe: open Control Panel > Performance & Maintenance, then select Power Options. There you'll see some options to go to stand-by or shutdown the hard-disk after various periods inactivity.
andsome
To change the subject, I don't recall you asking permission to be absent for so long. Don't let it happen again.

Hb_Kai
If you're looking for something like that then I think you may only find it in an alternative program to the one you are wanting its operation to be timed and it has the power off after operating functionality if your current program doesn't have this.I've never came across anything on the internet that can monitor another programs usage other than those that scan file systems and try to access other parts of your computer like registry, etc which is of course stuff like real-time protection software, virus scanners and such.On the other hand, you may find one that will do what you want. Somebody else here may also know of something but as for me I can't give you an URL to anything since I don't know of such a program's existence. Glad I understood you though :)EDIT:- Is it just one program you are wanting to be timed and computer to shut down after or is it a few? Because you could search through, just to check if you haven't already, their options on the toolbar up at File, Edit, etc, and see if anything is in there. Boris
Might be what you want ?????There was an old freeware program called something like DShutdown ??? From way back in my memory banks I seem to remember that it would let you do all sorts of things to make Windows close down + among these (I think) was when a program ended.
