80473y3 Posted September 13, 2009 Report Share Posted September 13, 2009 hi windows forum! i have used you guys for support before and have been spot on! hope you cna do it once more!i've been running Windows 7RC since it's release and have had no real problems with it until as of late. problem 1) my Aero peek doesnt work. i checked the settings in control panel and all teh boxes are checked, but neither the window peek from the taskbar nor the show desktop aero peek works. this is a minor problem, but it's really annoying ecause it worked up until a couple months agoproblem 2) my "all programs" list is blank. i checked the startup folder in my C drive and i do have both: folders and shortcuts within it. however, nothing i mean NOTHING shows. the strange thing is that the search funciton at the bottom will still find the program i'm looking for no problemProblem 3 [THE BIG ONE])if i leave my computer idle for about 30 minutes, my computer will freeze. this even happens when i'm, say, listening to music and doing homework on paper not touching my computer. strange thing is, i can close out programs, bring up the start menu, bring up the hidden system tray icons, and click them, but no windows will be created even if i click an icon. I am running Windows 7RC x64 on a Gateway p-7811FX laptop. if i knew how to do a dxdiag i would post it.thanks in advance! Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Your problem is in getting rid of it completely, it leaves so much rubbish behind. You may need several removal tools, and then run C Cleaner, but don't be tempted to try any other registry cleaners. Even then, I found that I needed to back up the registry, and then find and delete all the keys left behind, not a job to take on if you are faint hearted. :D Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Bits of it WILL be left behind.As regards the Q3 freeze problem - have a look at your settings for Hibernate and Sleep.Mine are switched off. No Sleep. (small victory)2)my all programs list showed all my programs at first, now it isn't anymore3)i don't have any security software. my family also has a Mcafee total protection subscription (because of we have an HP home server) and i just installed that today but i hear Mcafee isnt all it's cracked up to be. and the scans is REALLY SLOW, and it's horrible a reporting hits progress accurately!i am currently running Ccleaner. i do notice that W7 still recognizes Norton 360 as my security oftware and wants me to turn it back on. so i suspect Norton is still floating around in the registry still. i'll back up my whole registry before i run the clean. It will take an hour or three - but you must ensure your computer is clean of viruses.A good free anti-virus is AVG Free. Windows Action Center hasn't said anything about it like it did before the clean. i used AVG in the past and all it did was slow my computer to a crawl. you know of any other free alternatives? My computer is dual boot - Vista and Windows 7 - on both systems AVG works fine. If you are indeed running your computer without protection - you would be advised to disconnect from the web because big trouble is otherwise heading your way.AVG is used by a lot of mambers here - it may not be "the best" in some peoples opinion but it does the job for me and I am well happy with it. I use Nod 32 security suite, it is not free but over the course of the year is relatively cheap, and gets far better independent ratings than the free programs.
