A few day ago i found message "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting" on the task bar and my desktop become black and some message like "Windows Genuine". -pops- Posted October 21, 2009 Report Share Posted October 21, 2009 Quite surprised you can still buy computers with XP installed, notwithstanding it being on the verge of obsolescence.As of tomorrow, XP is two version behind the Public Windows developments.Be that as it may, the keywords in your post are "I recently bought new computer". It seems to have been implemented by a Windows update downloaded yesterday.One of them was able to boot into safe mode and restore the computer back to when all was OK.Might be worth trying - upon booting keep tapping F8 and then select "Safe Mode" from the options presented.You can then open Programmes, Accessories, System Tools and System Restore - then select a suitable date to restore to. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted October 21, 2009 Report Share Posted October 21, 2009 I had the same thing yesterday with my RC copy of Windows 7; the desktop went black, and there was a note at the bottom saying "Your copy of Windows is not genuine".I simply had to activate Windows with Microsoft, and all went back to normal. AlanHo Posted October 21, 2009 Report Share Posted October 21, 2009 You were lucky - Both my friends tried to activate but received a message that their Windows was not genuine or they had installed incompatible programs. One friend is now OK after a restore - but my other friend is still in trouble and lives too far away for me to pop over to help.For certain they both have genuine copies of Vista - one retail (now OK) and the other OEM. It tells me there are several Office 2007 updates available, even though I don't have it installed ( I have Office 2003).When I scan with Secunia, that tells me there are essental XP updates missing, but when I go back to Windows update there are only the Office 2007 "missing" updates!"Another fine mess you've got us into, Microsoft..."
