Need one in my garden

This is an age old system - and it's not only pee that is used.

I remember many years ago that a local sewage works would give away the deposits left on their filter beds to any gardener who would come and collect it. My father did and he was noted for prize winning vegetables at the local shows. He also grew superb tomatoes without ever planting a tomato seed (they are resistant to the attacks of the digestive system and the processes of sewage treatment).

I recall some 20 years later that a super modern sewage treatment plant was built (opened by HRH Philip)* and they used to sell treated sewage but, by that time, the hygiene Mafia was beginning to have influence and the marketing of a very good fertiliser failed miserably.

*Some mean people might say it would have been good to see him dropped in it.

I remember years ago when we used to camp up Ribblesdale along side the Settle-Carlisle track, we would often go along the line picking up coal for our fire, and we had quite a few fresh tomatoes in late summer from the track side through a similar process.
