.AVI and Thunderbird

I have just tried to send an .AVI as an email attachment and it tied up the works.

I had to restart the machine and delete it, before I could send the message to which it was attached.

The .AVI was a video from a Fuji Finepix SLR.

Is this yet another example of my sheltered upbringing?

Depends how you're sending it.

As an atachment to an email.

rong

No idea, but how big was the mail, or was it to big for your Email allowance

It was just a short note and 128Mb of .avi. I am sure I have sent and received much bigger packets.

Thunderbird just seemed to stall. The send/recieve progress bar started and after a couple of seconds it stopped. It then repeated the process and stopped again and everything just locked up. A push on the reset button and the system rebooted and I tried again, with exactly the same results.

After resetting and restarting everything seems to be back to normal.

Thanks Alan.Boris and HbKai.

Alan....I am using Ubuntu.

Boris.. I was frightened it might be that, but I could not understand why the thing got so knotted up as it did, and I feel I have had bigger packets ...but could I be thinking KB rather than MB? and have they been "attachments"?

HbKai...I shall have to try that.

What exasperates me is that all the ISPs promise us the world to get us to sign up with them and then they try to restrict our usage of the facility.

Thanks again.
