I also have AVG 9.0 as my security software which updates every 3 hours and scans the entire hard drive every night.Yesterday evening I went to a website that does NOT sell virus software. However, I got a box telling me that I had a virus and before I could stop the booger it was scanning my hard drive. I finally was able to stop it. Everytime I went to that site the same thing happened.So, I started a complete scan of my drive with AVG and went to bed. This a.m. the system was in deep sleep which had never happened before. I woke it up and checked the error messages on AVG.It found that file: C:\Program Files\ AVS Media\Video Tools\WNFDist.exe had a broken digital signature issued by Microsoft Corp.I was unable to tell what AVG had done about it so I took the option to delete unhealable items.Because the first virus message ocurred so soon after I connected to that website I don't see how the problem could have been detected so soon. It takes several hours to scan the whole disk.Was this error planted during the short time it took me to stop the unwanted scan? Perhaps because without my knowledge the routine was going to install a virus to be found so I would buy their software?Do I need the file with the "broken signature"? How can I restore it if I do? How can I tell if I have the same file with a good signature? What malfunction might I experience if I do nothing?All ideas will be appreciated. When you tried closing the browser/tab, did it also tell you something likeyou should CHECK NOW! to keep your hard drive clean of viruses and have to click cancel, close? Please don't post it as a hyperlink, and with 'hxxp:' instead of 'http:', like hxxp://google.com/ (or send me the website URL via PM).I suspect that the site may be infected with some malware, and is uploading some rogue "antispyware" on visitors' systems. andsome Posted December 1, 2009 Report Share Posted December 1, 2009 What also puzzles me is the time normally taken for AVG to scan the hard drive. Just what size is it? Nod 32 scans my hard drive of 250GB in about twenty minutes. I never leave the computer switched on when I go to bed.
