-How to up the volume?

Recently went from XP to Windows 7 Home, noticed the system volume to be much lower compared to XP's operating system-based maximums.

Turned off adjusting sound when using Skype and such to call, upped volume a bit, any other triggers to switch?

Media Player Classics volume boost ends up scrambling when it hits a certain point in decibels so rather dig for OS solutions.

Sound tends to be clearer when the system output is on loudest and speakers are on low. This one sounds a tad muffled and there's the electric buzz to be annoyed with when turning up the speaker current for noise.

I gave up with WMP a long time ago, partly to do with its sound quality.

I now use several different players, depending on what I'm doing. Video is usually on GOM player http://www.gomlab.com/eng/GMP_download.html, audio on Jet Audio http://www.jetaudio.com/download/

There are lots of others - both free and paid for versions. I pretty sure you'll find something to suit.

Let's break it down it a bit here. You are dealing with some very seperate issues, and are seemingly unable to deal with any of them is that correct ?

Skype

Media Player Classic

Problem solving and fault finding comes down mainly to "Containment" of each area that you perceive to be troublesome, and dealing with it individually in it's area of confinement.

I've had a scout around and cannot find any statistics, charts, white papers,or any other instances of information that points towards "System based Maximums" - Where did you find this ? As far as I know Windows 7 suffers no more audio/sound level problems than did XP.

Skype works ok on Widows 7. I cant find any literature that mentions anything about "Triggers" in Skype. I may be wrong, - point me towards it.

Your choice on this one. If you wanna dig around the operating system to find out why Media Player Classic is somehow "encrypting" stuff, - good luck.

I just do not know what you are talking about here.

Your post lacks vital information such as, - Codecs used, Drivers, Why you have chosen to use WMP Classic, and a whole load of other useful stuff that could have helped us to help you. Instead, you have chosen to use "Strete Speke" and now nobody is any the wiser as to what your problem is.

[ignore] I tend to ramble on, only have one problem and the explanation made it seem like many.

But problem in a nutshell:[/ignore]

Same sound equipment and machine, different OS.

Sound:

In Windows XP, full system volume with WinXP codecs + Combined Community Codec Pack: Loud

In Windows 7, full system volume with Win7HomePremium codecs + Combined Community Codec Pack: Not as loud

Go: Control Panel / Sound / Speakers / Properties

Once in there you can set up sound more or less as you want it.

Dependent on the driver you have got, you may also have a "Sound Effect Manager" in Control Panel, play around with that.

AC97 have varied drivers with very varied control panels. Often it takes a bit of searching around to get just what you want if you start to get individualistic.

External amplification should take care of any perceived low volume coming from the sound stages of the computer.

Another way to go is try another brand of soundcard, or perhaps swap out the onboard sound (If you have it) for a PCI Soundcard.

Hope that has been of some help. Cant go much further because you have still given little or no real useful information for anyone to make a further diagnosis.

What ever you do, dont get "Panicky" and make things worse than they are.

[ignore] Ok, now everything is maxed, slightly more volume. From here it's getting bulkier headphones I suppose.

Unfortunate that it has to be system volume, since all sound I'll have is game, flash or website background. Would have been simple to fix as playable files. Have to tinker with Adobe Flash Player settings for a possible extra boost. [/ignore]
