RabbitWho
Hi hi,Mom's HP pavilion On Vista, norton preinstalled 2007. Went to uninstal programs, "Norton Internet security" and "Live update" refuse to uninstall. "Install failed, gathering error information, this may take several minutes" 1 hour and counting. Ran msconfigunticked all the symantec (Company that makes norton) boxesrestarted, firefox didn't work - it seems that if Norton's ability to ask you which programs you would like to allow or not is disabled, it just firewalls everything by default. Any advice appreciated, even a list of symantec services and start up programs that I could disable without problems, to stop me having to illuminate them one by one and restart to check if everything still works. Thanks!
andsome
I tried some years ago to uninstall Norton when it gave me problems. Uninstall tools are available on their website. It took several attempts and the help of one of their technicians to finally do the job, and it was so bad that the registry had to be tinkered with too. Even then I got the odd pop up from Norton asking me to update etc. Finally, I formatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows. NEVER EVER AGAIN will Norton be allowed anywhere near to my computer. Belatucadrus
You could also check out AppRemover, "The free AppRemover utility enables the thorough uninstallation of security applications like antivirus and antispyware from your computer."
