D4\/!d Posted February 13, 2010 Report Share Posted February 13, 2010 I took my usb stick to my daughters Dell laptop running XPWhen I plug it in it starts the wizzard to install a driver, displays the name of the usb stick, but then fails to complete the wizzard. Which means that the contents cannot be seen in Explorer. I've had that happen.Nothing more annoying than arriving at somebody else's house to find their machine wont recognise the stick.Try formatting it.You could try here, but I expect you have already done the Google search route. />http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925196John. I thought perhaps you had brought it back home again, could format it, - put the data back on, and try again. Didn't realise you had left the stick with her.Have found a few times now that formatting has cured the problem completely if it is the flash drive.or of course using the Microsoft "Fix" if the computer is at fault.If it is not a cheapy make sure that it has not been formatted exFAT (FAT64) or it is in anyway preloaded.Seems strange that the Dell is seeing it as "New Hardware" and presenting you with a wizard.John. You're right.My gut feel is that it is something to do with iPoo, you know these music players they all use.I reckon it has mucked up the normal usb config, and if I meddle with the usb settings her iPod won't work.So I ain't touching it.
