AlanHo
I have no intention of making anyone envious - but I have bought a quantity of the ideal remote control for the TV to sell on to footie fans at a whopping profit. The World cup will prove to be a magnet for the average Brit who drives around with England flags festooned on his car and much larger England flags bedecking the house. All he needs is my patent remote control - at just £210 each they are an absolute bargain........ If "I don't particularly want anything to do with football" I take that to mean you are not interested, how can you know "If England play again like last night they will be on the plane home soon" without having watched it  Is there a closet football fan in there somewhere
AlanHo
We went to a daughter/son-in-law's barbecue yesterday where they had set up TV's in 4 rooms for the family and friends to watch the match. Before it started there was much chat amonst the lads on the final score line and who would score first etc which culminated in bets being taken.I forecast a 1-1 draw and got odds of 5 to 1 from my son-in-law who was totally mocking. He was confident that England would win 3-0 and he predicted Lampard as first scorer.I sat in the garden with most of the ladies having a beer or three but could just see, from a distance, one of the TV's through the patio doors and could clearly hear the lads banter as they watched the match. It suddenly went totally silent - quickly followed by some ripe language and my wife went to investigate - she returned with the news that the USA had scored. We left the party about mid way through the second half and I have just phoned a very hung-over son-in-law to remind him he owes me £50........
