doug Posted October 26, 2010 Report Share Posted October 26, 2010 I'm setting up my No.1 daughter with a new Win 7 PC, and am in the process of transferring her XP stuff to the new PC. Things have gone well, so far. Have been using an 80 GB USB H/D and have successfuly transferred her Thunderbird and Firefox e-mails, addressbook, bookmarks etc. using Mozbak. Next stage is to set up a non-administrator account for the G'son. How can I trasfer his applications and games over as I don't know where the install devices are - family breakup amd I don't want to go begging. So any help here would be gratefully appreciated. Boris Posted October 26, 2010 Report Share Posted October 26, 2010 How can I trasfer his applications and games over as I don't know where the install devices areTricky ! - not sure that you can just do a transfer in the way you are suggesting.The Laplink http://www.laplink.com/pcmover/ application is supposed to do it OKBUT the Easy Transfer Wizard installed on both XP and Windows 7 only allows you to transfer over all your user and custom settings as well as personal files. Belatucadrus Posted October 26, 2010 Report Share Posted October 26, 2010 Without the original .exe files on the disks it's going to be pretty near impossible as manually replicating any registry changes the installation routine made is going to be llooong and very very tedious. Some simpler games don't actually affect the registry so it may be worth doing a copy/paste on any program files and see if they work when in situ on the new PC. Don't make any promises though as failure will be hard to explain.Applications will suffer the same problem, may be easier to try and replicate using equivalent freeware, what are you looking to install ? Well I'll have to do it the hard way and get him to tell me all of the games he likes to play then see if they had been down loaded. Mind it's a good way of clearing out redundant items.
