MS Office Enterprise 2007 - missing Help data, online or offline!&

I am not sure when this happened, but there is no data in the 'Help' links to any of the modules.

When I press the "?" help links, either nothing happens at all or a box opens and when I touch 'list the index' it appears on the left, but nothing displays on the answer box on the right.

I have tried repairing, uninstalling and reinstalling - still the same.

I have searched the internet and there does appear to be history on this, but unfortunately none with any resolution to the problem (that I can find).

If anyone can offer any suggestions I would be extremely grateful.

From memory I think you only get the help files if you actually download them ?

Try Microsoft Update
/>http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/

and look under Optional (rather than Critical/Essential) Updates ?

Do you also have all the Service Packs and other updates for Office 2007 installed ?

Windows Update is included in Control Panel. In the future, to check for updates (or if this webpage doesn't open Windows Update automatically):

Click the Start button, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update.

I reinstalled yesterday, but I believe that I had received all updates available before that.

It is also installed on my notebook (my license allows that) and the help works perfectly well on there. I just can't understand it. :(

I found the telephone number for Microsoft Support. An access program was installed so that I could share my desk top. He then proceeded to remove Firefox and make IE the default Explorer. All now appears to be fine and in order in Office 2007.

I have just posted to this effect on the Motzilla Firefox forum. Hopefully they will respond and find whatever is causing the conflict.

Thanks for the ubdate.Seems I had a problem with my help content when I was using Ubuntu within Windows.The "virtual" OS used Firefox Browser.I use Bing in Windows.

Man.That turned out to be a mess.Had to wipe,reformat and reimage my HD to get Windows back after I was done "fiddlin'".:lol: :lol: :lol:

If you install Firefox with this add-on :-

IE Tab 2 (FF 3.6+)

you shuld be able to use Firefox as your default browser (including access to Windows update)

I still don't understand why Firefox should conflict / interfere with Ofice 2007 'Help' facility.

Also, why would this add-on make a difference?

I get windows updates without the add-on, don't have office updates though. (that's XP and W7)

Office Help may be using ActiveX controls, which can only run on IE.

If you install the IE-Tab2 add-on on Firefox, it may be able to run the ActiveX controls under Firefox, and you may once again use it as your default browser. (Not 100% sure that it will really work, but I think it's worth a try.)

How odd!

I use Firefox as my default browser and I've just checked the help files in my Office 2007 installation. It seems to be working perfectly satisfactorily. I don't have any compatibility addons or anything like that.

The ActiveX 'thingy' sounds logical, Pat.

I might try the IE-Tab2 add-on eventually - just feel a bit reluctant to set myself up for problems again.
