kuks24 Posted November 15, 2010 Report Share Posted November 15, 2010 Whenever I download a jpeg pic or pdf from firefox, it shows that it downloads in the download screen but I go to where I have it set up to go and it is nowhere to be found anywhere on my computer, what is going on. Dencandy Posted November 15, 2010 Report Share Posted November 15, 2010 Some browsers & download managers are a pain in the *rse when it comes to keeping the user informed if where the download has gone. You might think you've specified where they should go, but sometimes they auto-create a new folder with the same name somewhere else on the disk or in another partition. Search for all pictures & when you find the missing ones try to trace back what happened. You might also want to search on the word "download" and be surprised you've got several files with that in the name that you didn't know about!Firefox is fully configurable to drop the downloads exactly where you want, but you have to wrk at it by trial and error. That's my GFs method and her desktop has about sixty files on it. She refuses to use the Quick Launch area of the taskbar for shortcuts, instead leaving them all over the desktop mixed with photo files, MP3 files, and actual programs in an array of madness. Maybe it is a long-term Windows user's habit to put everything on the desktop, but it makes no sense to me. The desktop is a work area, not a file storage area or a program launching area. Internet Explorer has this annoying habit of integrating with Windows and hiding downloads in several places based on where Microsoft has decided they belong. Nuts to that! Give the user control, not Microsoft. The computer doesn't belong to B.G. With Firefox, you can set it to either download to the same folder that you pre-assigned, or to ask you each time where to download. If you want to download web pages, programs, songs, photos, and PDF files to five different folders, great. If you want to keep them all in the same folder, that's great, too. Now THAT makes sense.
