An elderly lady friend of ours has purchased a new laptop and is going on-line using bt with their Home Hub. She ordered these jus before we went on holiday and I haven't been able to get to her to show her some basics yet as wife is having some very poorly turns. What I'm hoping to find are some tutorials for her. Courses (free) seem to be in short supply at present and as she, in turn, is house bound to look after her bed ridden mum, her options are somewhat limited.She is not too dim having finaly read the hub manual and got on to BT who have diagnosed a faulty router so she's waiting for the replacement. She has started using IE the the router packed up. I'm all primed to install Thunderbird as her e-mail client. In the mean time if anyone could post some links to tutorials for beginners I would be very grateful so she could start practising befor I get to her. Her laptop has Windows 7 and that's it. It also has Norton on it which her nephew "switched" off to install AVG. I'll see about getting the Norton removal tool but I think that requires an internet connection. So any help here folks please post. PS she lives in the Chester-le-Street area of County Durham if anyone knows of any courses going. Age UK, libraries have not been any help. A local, previously thriving social centre (not only for pensioners) is now all but derelict - just the odd jumble sale at weekends.If you are considering a commercial printed book for your old lady to learn from, be very careful, doug. Some of the heavily advertised publications have contained downright dangerous advice about the practicalities of computers (e.g. inappropriate plugging/unplugging and such). doug Posted August 19, 2011 Author Report Share Posted August 19, 2011 Hard from her last night that the replacement BT hub arrived yesterday and they will contact her today to guide her through connecting up. Also she said that she had signed up for a course in Stanley ( straight up into the clouds from here), only £1.70 a lesson!
