The telephone rings, a distinctly Asian voice tells me I have an infected computer( I use Linux), so I thought lets see how long I can keep him on the phone.

So to follow his instructions I booted the wifes laptop which runs Windows 7.

First off they asked me to press the Windows key & R which opened the run box and type eventvwr in the box then press OK, then go to Windows logs and look for red or yellow marks against the entries and to count them, this took a long while as scrolling down the page took a while, after counting them I said do I need to click on any of the warnings, to which he said no.

This took me up to 20 minutes on the phone, then he told me to get the run box up again and type www.logmein123.com, at this juncture I decided to tell him that I was not the novice I had led him to believe and was certainly not going to the website he asked me to type in the run box, and I put the phone down.

About 2 minutes later he rang again and said what happened we appear to have been cut of, so I said as I use a Linux OS your services were of no use to me,

I heard him mutter something and the phone went dead.

Total time with both calls, 26 minutes.

Am I becoming a sad silver surfer.

Never heard of it. Just checked mine and there were quite a bit of files as well. Looked it up and found some interesting data. Seems you can edit a lot in Windows....

Since I cannot seem to elicit a phone call from the experts, maybe I'll give one a call and ask 'em what I should do with all the files. Looks to be a virus to me....

Nice find, rong.
