D4\/!d
I have a number of clippings from old newspapers that are in PDF format. I want the text copied from the image into a word doc. I don't want to have to retype it all - there is rather a lot - and I might make an error. What is a reliable method to convert from PDF to Word. I'd prefer a freebie solution, too. Thanks,

D4\/!d
Have you tried copy and paste? in foxit reader it's not exactly copy its in tools and snapshot then it pastes into my old version of wordThis looks interesting, but how does it work?I opened a pdf in Firefox, did the Tolls>Select text bit but it didn't copy to clipboard.Mind you what pdf reader are you using - mine is Foxit. [late edit] alright I've now done what you said, that is use snapshot. Doh!Trouble is in taking a snapshot it simply pastes an image. We need to be able to edit and format the text from the newspaper clipping. Boris
Try using Sumatra (open source) http://blog.kowalczy...pdf-viewer.html - which I now use rather than Foxit Latest version is 1.8 https://kjkpub.s3.am...1.8-install.exe Open the .pdf in Sumatra, Highligt + Select the text you want Right Click - Copy Selection Paste into Word or whatever you want. Simples :)
D4\/!d
Many thanks for that Boris - a nice little program Trouble is it still only takes a picture [snapshot] and pastes an image into Word. I'd like to be able to edit and format the text.
Boris
Many thanks for that Boris - a nice little program Trouble is it still only takes a picture [snapshot] and pastes an image into Word. You aren't using it correctly then ???? For me - it works exactly as you want to use it (tested it in Win 7 and XP using Word 2000, NotePad + WordPad) See example below - Highlight text (as in yellow - Capture 1) Right Click - Copy Selection Paste (finished paste into WordPad - Capture 2)
D4\/!d
Thanks for proving that it works (for you).Have to say I did the same as you - yellow capture - Right Click>Copy Selection. When it comes to paste I can only paste a bitmap - no other option are offered - yes I even tried Paste Special.Tried it in Notepad++, MSWordpad, MSNotepad, MSWord. Nothing wants to behave as text. Thanks again for trying :)

AlanHo
Adobe Reader X version 10.1.1 does exactly what you require. I just tried it on two pdf files and was able to highlight text in Adobe reader - copy it - and paste it into a Word document as text which can be edited.
