Lamb Chop
Having finally sorted out my external HD problem and got a new 500GB Toshiba one which has installed back up but not if you don't activate it they tell me. So at last can install my Acronis True Image 2012 program and start hopefully I thought having a back up program that is not like the 3 so far which have all failed in the end and I ended up having to cut and past file by file before doing latest recovery. I put the Acronis disc in the machine up came a window and clicked on install Acronis only - although underneath is another re media add not sure what this is. OK. After a few minutes it finally put up a window and I clicked on install and it went to another window and started the process which took a while. Then it suddenly rolled back and said.Installation Failed. Fatal error during installation.Under that Knowledge base article which wasnt much use to me - maybe someone with more knowledge of these things can read it but I felt not a lot better. />http://kb.acronis.com/errorcode/bookmark/0x00620002_0x0000FFF0_0x80070643/1075/1333087818/71774137-5446-445C-9067-CB7A083CC6BC So here I sit mystified as to what to do next. Try installing it again or what - they say cant contact me with any way to address the problem so what do I do. Blimey senior moment or are they a bit lacking - page of help Smart Error Reporting hardly has much on it nothing re installation failed. I have registered the product. It did a log and I have saved that. They say they check for new versions but I have the latest and surely if they can do that they could also have a copy of the log sent on to them and then be able to do something with it? Or am I asking too much I guess I feel flummoxed that it is so hard usually vendors fall over themselves to explain to us average users out here in the real world. Maybe Hansom knows as he uses Acronis.
-pops-
Which disk are you using for the Acronis install? It should go on to your "C" drive and then you direct the backups it makes to your external drive.

Lamb Chop
Ok maybe because on their site I wrote a very dissatisfied message - and the links Anton gave are againregister etc and then send a message. It is almost like our call centres here in Oz - designed to make surethey run you around long enough that you give up and retire from the fray Pops I tried to install it on drive C. Did get that bit from their website that sometime into getting it to install I would needto direct which drive to save it too and have nice one ready and waiting now. you never know some day I may have a fully operational back up system that when needed works - having this troubletrying to install does not signify good feelings but then in this perverse world where other back up systems seemed to be goodmaybe it means hard to get installed will actually work. I think that because I had to register to get on to their site to find put how etc and also got nagged for product and serial nothat that may be the problem - thinks that someone else maybe has that serial number not me? I am trying again. Did think get a trial no and install it that way and then sort it out but that failed because as soon as Iput in my email it said - you have already downloaded the trial program when of course I hadnt - usually do but this timebought it. So I have downloaded it anyway and will try that too if the disc does not work second time. Good job it isthe weekend eh!
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
I am a bit confused by your post; initially you write that you use an install disk for Acronis True Image 2012, and in the last post you say that you were trying to download a trial version? I have recently upgraded to TI 2012, and I was very impressed how smooth the installation (and online registration) went. If you continue to have troubles with the installation, I would suggest that you ask in the Acronis forum, where they can help you diagnose what went wrong. Go to http://forum.acronis.com/forums/acronis-true-image-home-discussions/acronis-true-image-home-2012-forum and register/login, then post your details in a new topic. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
P.S. you can also go to http://www.acronis.com.au/index.html and login with your userid, then go to downloads and download the latest version of TI 2012 (the disk that you have may not contain the very latest and greatest version). ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Just for you I have uninstalled TI 2012, then re-downloaded and installed it. Here are the steps I took: 1. go to the Acronis website and login; you will see something like this on the first page after login 2. click Get Updates, and you will arrive at the download page for your registered products 3. click Download for the latest build (#6154), and save it to disk; the name will be something like ATIH2012_6154_en-US.exe 4. double-click on the downloaded installer file; you will be presented with the initial install panel 5. click Install 6. accept the License Agreement and click Next 7. choose if you want to participate in the Customer Experience Program, then click Next 8. enter your serial number and click Next 9. select the components you want to install, choose the install location, and click Next 10. at the Setup Summary panel click Proceed 11. wait until the installation is complete I was not required to register again, possibly because some registration information remained on my computer, even though I uninstalled the product. If you still have problems, at what step did the problem occur?
Lamb Chop
Pat thanks for that and trying but I am about to uninstall it as it has really upset my computer.Had the cursor jumping all over and even start page blanked out and had this before withincompatible programs. I have tried the downloaded version. Got it activated it but got fail message on back up.With long error no and going to the site had heaps of same and nogood for me. Reckon it is full of bugs or just as I said no compatible with XP SP3 Home version 2002. It simply wont fit on any resolution here - tried every one - usually on 800x600 as I wearspectacles and none of the others showed the whole window either and only way to shut itdown is to do an emergency shut down - not good. I have had this before with some programsbecause of my resolution but usually can find one where can use the buttons etc - bit of a painto use but workable. I did get the download to install and take the serial no from the box the disc came in eventually afterhaving to ask for trial version no and had put it in and shut down for day. Booted up and then it had forgottenthe serial no and asked for one so put in one off the box the disc came in. Activated it. Said no backups found. then showed the window to directwhere to back up and it had found the external drive e  and that is the best part of the program - it foundsomething. After that went to pieces as it wont back up at all said failed and gave this long error no andgoing to site had heaps of similar long winded ones so gave up. and because it was causing problems did an emergency shut down as computer was going troppo by now.EG: Start page blank except for my name at the top.Just one example. Cursor going all over and not working. Booted back up and got WinPatrol to stop the program and it settled down and all working fine now. So Revo uninstaller Pro here I come. Cant be bothered with it as if it is this difficult will be like all the restof these back up programs to date. Failure. Only cost $45 but lost far more losing working time. Must be something that works somewhere on Planet Earth - just means I may have to live withcut and paste now and then to the external 500GB HD I now own as traded in the WD Smartware. And with the Ghost on here get the OS back and what files I have cut etc and lost a bit maybe. Programs I run.Avast. WinPatrolPro SAS pro Adobe Reader 10 Firefox 10 Thunderbird 10 C Cleaner ChromeIE8 Malwareabytes Anti Malware[boot] Online Armour Webshots DU Meter Internet Download ManagerEpson Photo and Printer Roxio Drag to Disc and usual windows systems plus Java and Flash Nothing unusual there methinks to make a program not run alongside. Just put it down to experience I guess. thanks again for being so helpful Pat. :D PS Acronis site reckons I dont have Java enabled in my computer but it isand never had that before - checked all up to date too. Weird.
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
What version of Java do you have installed? I have seen strange things happening on computers that had multiple versions of Java installed. Regarding Acronis True Image; I had version 9 for a very long time on Windows 2000 and XP, and it worked very well. I wonder if there is a way to obtain a serial number for TI9 - I could make the installer available to you. (But of course I cannot give you my serial; that would not be legal.) Lamb Chop
Pat I have Java 6 update 31. Re Acronis Image version 9 sounds like a plan - it works so well for everyone I know who all say weird that it is not good but new. Maybe my I can get them to action my serial no for an older version. But they are not very quick off the mark since I got a message to Anton and what 2+ days still not heard backand I sent the notepad with the error causing the problem as well as it will mean something to them - hopefully! I will go and see if anything new on their forum - not a lot of postings re version 2012. Only released March.
Lamb Chop
Yes well hahttp://forum.acronis.com/forums/acronis-true-image-home-discussions/acronis-true-image-home-2012-forumd a look at the forum to see if anyone else having problem with Acronis 2012 Have to register etc to get in unlike some whre guests can view but not post. so here is in as I have had to register to get serial number accepted etc. Quite a few problems there />http://forum.acronis.com/forums/acronis-true-image-home-discussions/acronis-true-image-home-2012-forum Not sure if this is a comfort or not
Lamb Chop
OK I finally got an answer from Anton at Acronis - got to be busy with all the new problems installing etc on their sitesince mine. So not surprising. Anyway he said the error report I sent him said that there were problems in the programI had on updating issues which he had fixed in a download he had prepared and gave me a link. Also a link to a untilityprogram that goes through and uninstalls - I had used Revo to uninstall it but tried the utility first and it found3 registrykeys which had been mentioned in their info on using it. It got rid of these and shut down the computer. Then I installed the new programs and voila it installed but there is the problem still that I cant read the whole screenin any resolution - usuallyon 800x600 but when this happens can find one to read it and then go back etc but not with thisparticular one so I was glad to find a backup and then tick here and it will shut the computer down as previously and now ofcourse cant find the shut down button to click on as wont move and cant see either the top or bottom properly. Anyway after it had shut down booted up and got working and then found another screen fro Acronis and it wanted me to backup again and had my documents marked but was backing up to C when I wanted it to go to E so changed that and off it wentthe up popped a task bar icon and a message saying "Acronis non stop backup is started." Quick as finished now. So I am not sure what I have done or doing No wonder people struggle with backing up - hardest thing I have found on a computer. Actually most lkely why previous back ups failed - I dont know what I am doing with these - very mysterious - usually can nut outhow to do most programs - this one is not easy for me at all. I am going to contact Anton again or support because this business of not being able to shut it down or read the things to do at the top and bottom half only so may do something or have stupid. CAnt only be me if it is too big for my screen.
Lamb Chop
Ok now I have problems with Acronis - cant access it at all and it is doing something called non stop backup. Fine but it wont shut down even windows end now does not work - and it is making all sort of problems because itstarts to back up straignt away anyway let it go yesterday but today - only checking emails and nothing happenedwhen clicked on Thunderbird on desk top and then when I tried to start Firefox the incon disappeared and I realizedthe whole system was frozen. So did the usual stop these days emergency button. Did this twice and third time pulled out the external HD whilst shut down and then started up - started fine but ACroniscame up saying some has removed the external storage. Seems a good program if only it would work correctly. Must have awful bugs in it - so leaving it like this and I cant check what it is backing up surely you must be able to or endup in a mess if it hasnt been doing it and you crash and need it and buggered! Hope you guys and gals are having a nice safe Easter and not stuffing too many chocolate eggs down the hatch
Lamb Chop
Just to update - 3 versions and not able to get it to work - uninstalled and took it back to retailer. Expecting no refund but their tech tried loading it off the disc and it was exactly the same on his computer as it was on mine so he refunded me the cost. Good bye and no thanks - from now on will just cut and paste as tech advisedwhen WD smartware My passport died on me too. Only way to go is cut & paste then only myself to blame if lost data as forgot etc
