Deleting Seagate Backup from Seagate External Drive

I have created a Backup using the Software within a Seagate External drive.

I now wish to delete this from the External drive.

If I click right on the Backup folder within the drive & then click Delete, I get a message that says that file names are too long for the Recycle bin & the Back up does not delete.

Where am I going wrong?

Hmmm that's a puzzle. I find that with W7, and I think previous versions, the delete key sends things straight to the recycle bin. But holding down the shift ket while pressing the delete key "stuff" just gets deleted. You will have to wait for better men, or women (Irene) than me. Orf in the morning for a week so will look in next Sun/Mon to see if you have a solution. Good luck.

For completeness this is the track of events

Press Shift/Delete, or right click delete

Starts deleting with box saying "Preparing to Delete"

Then get "Confirm Folder delete" message, check Yes

Then message "Error deleting file or folder" the words being " Message "Cannot delete 2009_04_28 the file name you specified is invalid or too long, Specify a different file name"

If there is nothing on the drive that you want to retain, the best thing to do would be a reformat.

When I've installed an external drive I always format to remove any included software. It usually isn't very good and not what I've bought the drive for

Done it!

Found the offending file 29_04_28, by using XP search.

Drilled down to find it within the External drive folder, deleted it.

Thhen went into the "Backup" & deleted, & it worked!

But thanks for al of the input, gave me the faith to carry on
