bobby_2009
hi,i am using win 7 64 bit. sometimes, say you have multiple windows open of a single application (let's say 5 windows for MS Excel). when you left click on the Excel icon on the taskbar, you expect the 5 miniature windows to pop up and arrange themselves horizontally so that you can then click on the specific Excel window that you want to open. this happens most of the time for me (>90%), but once in a while, when i left click on the Excel icon on the taskbar, the menu pops up instead (what you get when you right-click on the icon). i realise that it is very erratic -- there is no telling when the windows or the menu would pop up. this problem happens for other applications too.anyone knows what the problem may be?many thanks. D4\/!d
Sorry no idea - but every time I right click on the task bar icon I get the menu. Good that's what I prefer. To see the various panes of spreadsheets I simply hover over the icon and up pops the miniature windows. That's also the way it happens with Explorer or any other program I have open with multiple panes.Try this, go to the start ball, right click and see if there is anything in Properties that will set your requirement. -pops-
What do you get if you hover over the icon rather than clicking it?As has been said, clicking an icon opens another window of that item. Right clicking offers the menu. Hovering over the icon will display the open windows. That's what mine do (all four of them).

bobby_2009
when i hover over the icon in the taskbar, the various windows are displayed, just like what you would get if you left click on the icon. this seems to be working ok. it's just that there is a short delay between hovering your cursor over the icon and waiting for the windows to display, so most of the time i prefer to left-click.David, thanks for your suggestion, but i don't see anything under 'properties' that can help me. bobby_2009
i realise what the problem is.if you left-click on the taskbar icon and hold, then slightly move your cursor upwards, that will bring up the menu instead of the display windows. i think this may have been the reason why my left-clicks have occasionally turned into right-clicks instead now the problem is to see if this left-click-and-drag can be deactivated..
