Peter2309
Hi My father in law has managed to install a premium rate dialler in his PC, but as it runs from start up it will not delete or uninstall in the normal way. Is there a program that I can download to remove it or am I going to have to go into the registry and edit it? He will not connect to the internet at the moment as it automatically dials the premium rate number. Would this be classed as a kind of virus? Hope you can help Pete
Chris
Click here and downlaod Adaware6. Then install, Update, scan and it should find the dialler (maybe other things as well) and then delete. Also try Spybot S&D more powerful (in my opinion) and again, downlaod, update and scan.Be careful with what you delete with Spybot though. Download from hereDo you have Anti Virus Protection?
mark2
Before going into the registry have you tried deleting the offender whilst in safe mode ?

Redhat
Tell your father-in-law to stop going to the naughty sites :P One other way you can protect yourself from future dialers, is to either :I. Not use I.E. which uses ActiveX. II. If using I.E. install SpywareBlaster and keep it updated. Also tighten your I.E. settings : Go to Internet Options/Security/Internet, press 'default level', then OK. Now press "Custom Level." In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to 'prompt', and 'Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" to 'disable'. Now you will be asked whether you want ActiveX objects to be executed and whether you want software to be installed. Sites that you know for sure are above suspicion can be moved to the Trusted Zone in Internet Option/security. So why is activex so dangerous that you have to increase the security for it? When your browser runs an activex control, it is running an executable program. It's no different from doubleclicking an exe file on your hard drive. Would you run just any random file downloaded off a web site without knowing what it is and what it does?
