I suspect my Windows & upgrade disc is a bit garbled

Having bought a brand new computer I thought end of troubles with old.

Programs simply are not running correctly.

For example. Mouse never worked as it did prior on XP.

All over the place lose control etc. when scrolling. Tried to adjust it both places and thought why 2 anyway. M$ mouse and Keyboard, Just un-installed it as although both are M$ and compatible - so far so good.

Pale Moon browser. they advise 32 bit for this 64 bit as cant have so many add-ons etc. . But it kept closing. So installed 64 bit (uninstalled 32) and it worked after a fashion then started closing down too. Windows kept trying to solve the problem as this OS does, and came up with settings should be XP SP2 - tried that still closed down. So emailed Moon Child ,the person who runs Pale Moon and he said it was never made for XP but for W7 and 8.

Got me thinking too as I use Revo uninstaller and it hasnt listed all the programs on here. I didnt know for instance I had Windows Defender and would think it should be listed. But not and also i got a McFee Scan program with something and thought I had uninstalled it via windows as it didnt show up in Revo but still in program file.

Not sure what to do as went to M$ to buy the extra bits for my OS and they said no longer do it only for 8. Go buy a disc of 8.

Honestly it is enough to drive one nuts except a friend who has W7 too laughed and said yeah right but then changed his mind after using it for a bit and having a look at the programs I mention shutting down or missing out bits.

Nope just like I missed when Vista came to town and bought from Dell on line as still loading XP.

I bought a Family pack of Windows Home Premium 7 and it came with 2 discs, 32 and 64 bit.

The 32 bit upgraded the old Dell. That worked to a degree but as the Dell was around 8 bought new 64 but computer and I sent the manufacturer my own disc for them to load. OK. Or else I could have paid extra for their W7 disc as only these people can do it seemingly, all the rest in retail shops are 8 and didn't want it as most say usual in between good OS and like Vista - give it a miss. So did.

Anyway progressing got in touch with computer vendor who said tested disc and no problems genuine article and anyway it wouldn't have loaded correctly if a dud nor would M$ acknowledge as genuine. Reckons some programs like Revo can do more damage etc etc as had a problem with it as well as Pale Moon 64 which Moon Child said when I emailed saying windows settings recommended to stop it closing were XP SP 2 and he said designed for W7 and so not program and too busy right now with new version coming out.

Computer people who sold me the 64 bit, said to do a complete re-install. But first off advised as I had listed problems, to sort out the issue with the Drive E/: Toshiba Canvio Basics 3.0 because it is not on the list for Windows compatible and because it keeps installing a driver often which I had noticed but didn't think a problem not knowing if they need updating a lot etc.

Said sort this out and maybe the problems would go away and save the re-install also he will sell me a disc if necessary as I bought the computer without paying but because a new build legal to do so. But try solve issues first.

I actually got into the E/: today, and did a backup via Windows. then checked it on data. It was corrupt all it shows are pages of IE11 start up when first installed reams of them etc. So much for that. It had also garbled the Easy Transfer Wizard from the 32 bit luck I had cut and pasted it as dont trust any back up program as to date none worked. Anyway have contacted Toshiba re drivers. As well as M$ on feedback asked to include Toshiba Canvio 500G as it carries the Windows 7 compatible label and they only have their 750G on list not the 500G (nor the latest 1T).

Whilst waiting for replies have now taken off all on this external drive and formatted it but still cant eject it wont allow me say all the time another program is using it but check with Task Master and only process is System Idle on 99 every time I check. :ranting:

Issue is boot up Device showing although states unknown then driver installed. Need to reboot to get it found. Also when you go to Devices and Printers. Like in the very first place it doesn't recognize as a device - click on find a new device as I did on install and it came up with Bluetooth etc but properties show it as unknown then second Toshiba. Why it system cant recognize a ext HD beats me didnt have problem on 32 bit. Which is one reason suspected disc.

I am hoping to resolve this issue and find that resolves others. But not holding my breath as other bits are wonky but get first right. If not reckon will just buy another disc as 32 bit wasnt 100% either. Only $133. Dilemma Dilemma.

am I lucky or what? :censored:

Got a brand new disc on its way as the one in the family pack is damaged for sure. And have managed to work around fact that Windows wont operate my external HD the correct way but adding it to my Libraries. Really - yep long enough to cut and past all my data files and photos etc. And got the one I should have gone with new computer as only builders can issue them once version has been passed etc but as I used my disc - and he only checked it was genuine - which it is. But wizards are greyed out and not functioning at all. As well as problem with recognizing device - formatted it and still wouldn't recognize it and still appears and next boot gone.

So ready to do what isnt on this disc - first step repair function, and if that fails, then full re-install.
