Are Internet Forums a thing of the past ?

This forum seems to have experienced something of a renaissance, largely due to Irenes quiz questions, but many of the other forums I've visited are either dead or near too. Even the once Mighty PCA seems a lot less lively than it used to be.

Have the average punters all buggered off to twitter, facebook etc. Are we a dying remnant, techno dinosaurs ?

It could be the fact that since Windows 7 there are a lot less problems.

Techno dinosaurs, quite probably.

Have you tried Petra ( Mint 16), it is well worth a look, even if you only run it as a live DVD or USB.

Got to be careful with the HP as the graphics set up throws a wobbly with Cinnamon, I may try an updated Mate package later but as 13 is working extremely well, particularly with Wicd network and Wine and is a long term support package I will probably leave well alone.

It came with Suse which I screwed up so I tried Ubuntu Netbook and various others : PCLinux, Lubuntu & Zorin. I've finally got it to do what I want and am not inclined to bugger around with it.

As you say can still test a USB iso though.

The forum format may be on decline in computer and similar matters but other subjects are thriving. Health and medical particularly popular.

Very possibly, as Alan states, it is due to the increased reliability of computers that forums devoted to them are becoming less exciting and busy. I have certainly noticed that my machines and the ones I look after need far less cosseting than they used to.

I do agree that a lot of computer forums have been seeing a slight decrease in the amount of members retained on site on a regular basis and yes, I do agree that this can be attributed somewhat to the stability and ease of use of Windows 7. However, there are subects with forums dedicated to them that are thriving, such as Android/Apple and as -pops- says, heath and medical.

With computers, it always seems to lull every now and then, before coming back around. Social media will never totally replace how informative a good forum can be.
