Hello fellows. I was using Avast free antivirus till the end of the last week. But my boss asked me to install the paid version (that they bought) of norton 360. My question is what it makes the differece between both 2 of them. Is my system is much secured now than that of having the free version of Avast?

Personally, I had far too much bother with the dreaded Norton in the past, as did many others. I will not let any Norton product anywhere near to a computer of mine again. I ended up having to reinstall Windows to finally get rid of all the remnants of it. It is supposed to be better now, but as far as I am concerned, 'once bitten twice shy'.

If the computer is your own private machine then I would not personally want Norton on it, but that's my own personal opinion.

If however the computer is a company machine you are using for business purposes then your use of avast free is in breach of the license terms which counts as software theft and opens your boss to potential prosecution by the FAST or Federation Against Software Theft who can levy some really punitive fines In this case you need a full license AV be it avast! or Norton.

my boss asked me to install the paid version (...) of norton 360.

Obviously your boss hates you; that's the only reason I can imagine why they want you to install some Symantec garbage on your computer.

Most likely your computer will be much slower, will refuse to install any new software or updates, and will probably stop working altogether in a short while.

If that were happening to me, I'd start looking for a new job...

Thanks for the replies as i have found that the majority have negative reviews about Norton 360 and i too have expereienced that my system performance has down which clear indicates that Norton has slow down my laptop. But no solutions for this aniety because i have to retain it till further instructions.

Comes down to who owns the lap top. If it is 100% yours then dump it or offer it back so can be pu ton another as licensed. If it is the companies issued to you for work, then you have no option but to keep it and use it. Easy peasy.

Actually is is not that bad I had it on here new computer as part of freeware loaded by manufacturer for trial and found it was a 100% better than last time I used it which was around 10+ years back when it was really really clunky and used up heaps. Didnt notice any difference on this one which is 3.0Ghz 4G Ram etc so a lot faster.

And it didnt need any special tool either like previous heavy version that invaded the computers badly -just uninstalled.

Well its company's computer that is why i have to retains it as long as they will choose another that suites our working. Although till the time i have posted this thread i have found that it is not bad as it is said to be. Its working perfectly. Some time i feel that the system is not functioning as it should be but there may some some other reasons too that slow down the computer.
