Belatucadrus
When I go into the local BMW dealership, the girls on reception greet you politely ask what you want and takes you to the relevant agent, if they're unavailable they take you to a waiting area and ply you with beverages and bickies and go make sure that the requisite person comes to see you ASAP. They're the ones that sold me a car last year.Today I went to the local Jaguar dealership, no customer parking and when i went got inside despite the fact that I was am a respectable tidily turned out mid 50s male with a sound credit rating. Zero response from any of the myriad staff, I mooched around looked at cars, opened boots, sat inside. You name it I did it, did I elicit any action from any staff who outnumbered clients at least ten to one. No chance, they were all far too busy wool gathering or examining the lint in their collective navels. Now in their defense I wasn't seriously looking for a new set of wheels, so they haven't lost out but I didn't expect to have to go find somebody and grab them by the scruff of the neck to get them off their well upholstered posteriors. The difference between the two outlets was chalk and cheese, pity it was the British one that sucked sooooo badly.
Irene
Car showrooms always seem to be at extremes! I must admit that I don't like to be hassled the second I walk through the door. I prefer my own space to begin with; then someone (who has been keeping at a reasonable distance) be available when I am ready... ;)

Belatucadrus
The girls at Rybrook BMW are quite happy to leave you to browse if that is your desire and they're way too good at what they do for it to come across as hassling. What got me at the Jag emporium was the overwhelming feeling that the staff were far too busy to talk to potential clients and they'd much rather you buggered off so they could carry on with the important stuff like Tweeting or playing Angry birds. Alan2273
When I purchased a new car last year I looked at Mercedes, Audi, Toyota and Honda. The first two, I got a similar experience to Belatucadrus, but the Honda and Toyota dealerships were a pleasure to visit. As SWMBO had the last word we purchased a new Toyota. Irene
It must be a specific establishment problem. I have found our local Mercedes (Drayton) Dealership to be exceptionally polite, co-operative and welcoming.
Herr Dresser
I have found my Mercedes dealerships to be excellent at sales, it is when you have a vehicle service or a problem with the car, it is then when they are awfull. I only kept my new Mercedes for 18 months before I traded it in for a VW. Much better sales and service staff and car.
