I for one would be a lot happier if this thread was not developing into a slanging match, we are all entitled to an opinion without getting involved in petty name calling. Come come children let's keep it sensible.

Regarding Bush and America, I have NO time at all for Bush, he strikes me as an absolute pillock, and I certainly don't like the Americanism that is happening to our country. However I have great sympathies for all those involved in 9-11, and as far as I can see this was yet another Muslim outrage against innocent civilians. It is a sad fact that so many Muslims are quite happy to deliberately target innocent civilians, even children, out of a sheer blood lust and hatred of anything which is not Islamic. At least the Americans wherever possible do make an attempt to keep the targets military, although it is a sad fact that in war this is not always possible. Almost all attempts at settlement in the Middle East come to an end when the fanatics launch yet another attack upon innocents, the terrorists do not want peace, only the annihilation of all things Jewish or Western.

Regarding the award to the Iranian woman I do not have an opinion, as I do not know enough about her. Bush however is entitled to his opinion the same as everyone else.

Bush Lauds Award of Peace Prize to Iranian Lawyer

Sat October 11, 2003 03:25 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush on Saturday applauded the decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Iranian human rights lawyer Shirin Ebadi and said he hoped her country would embrace democracy.

That's what has gotten Shirty fired up, andsome, and this is the background against which the woman was fighting for human rights. She was a judge, pre mullahs, she was imprisoned and bounced back fighting. Good on her. Good on the Idiot Son for getting something right.

Moon, from your link...

Human Rights Watch expressed concern that the prohibition on torture that currently exists in Iranian law is limited, and is in need of strengthening and clarification in order to meet international standards. For example, Article 38 of the constitution only prohibits the torture of detainees to extract confessions. The use of torture as a punishment or for other purposes is not specifically prohibited.

So now you are saying that you are against making the guilty suffer? The Nonces and pervs etc.....? I was reading yesterday about using 2 bricks and so on. Exaggerated I know, but a little pain would get your support I presume?

The parliamentary bill vetoed by the Council of Guardians did not close the loopholes in the existing law. For example, the bill did not uphold the right of detainees charged with a criminal offense to have prompt access to legal counsel, nor did it set limits on the permitted length of time that a detainee may be detained incommunicado.

Guantanamo Bay ring a bell?

As for being told to cut back on the name calling by someone who then begins his post with this as an opening line...

Regarding Bush and America, I have NO time at all for Bush, he strikes me as an absolute pillock

Bush ain't a member ( yet) and Guantanamo is outside of every known legal scrutiny, for which I don't blame the Americans one bit, after the WTC destruction. I know how I feel when killers, rapists and child molestors 'walk' from British courts on a technicality. They get defence councils like yourself, devoid of emotional interaction.

ok let me take the last point 1st.

They get defence councils like yourself, devoid of emotional interaction

If we are allowed to get personal and be treated equally by the admins, then that's ok. Based on very recent experience in the 'other' forum, that ain't gonna happen, so keep it clean Moon and try avoid the personal attacks from now on. I'm sure you can still make a valid point without having to resort to demonizing me everytime you respond to one of my posts. It was fun, but now that your long standing membership of these forums seems to add so much bias in your favour, I find I can't compete.

Bush ain't a member ( yet) and Guantanamo is outside of every known legal scrutiny,

Based on this argument, if Iran were to withdraw from the treaties and become a non-member, would they too be left in peace by to do as they want in future?

Guantanamo is very much outside of every known law in the civilised world and the morally superior USofA is constantly under fire for it's civil rights and human rights failings.

I know how I feel when killers, rapists and child molestors 'walk' from British courts on a technicality

How do you feel? Like using something akin to a little torture on them maybe? Or worse?

I can live with attacking Iraq, Iran or the Isle of Man if the cause is just and the argument made for such action is honest.

If the super power and her allies want to do good things in the name of God, world safety and world peace, they should have looked elsewhere to kick-start their crusade. Trouble is that this aint so much a crusade, but more of a quest for the Oily Grail.

Hey, you started a very silly thread ( Diabolical & dangerous) , here and at the Pit. I'm no fan of Bush but it gets boring when his every move is attacked, right or wrong. You've generally got a point, which I appreciate, but this topic was pure hatemongering. You've also got a string of dummies believing that the award was fixed and the gal didn't deserve it. What do you expect but a defence of truth ?

Everybody is equal at the Pit , and here. Length of membership doesn't count in a discussion. If I've pierced your skin that's only because you pierced mine first.

Anyway, we'd better work together. Some idiot wants to supply the Israelis with nukes !!!!!!!!!!!!

It ain't you, is it ? :D

It's true. I hate American foreign policy with a vengeance and with good reason.

In light of that fact, I don't see it as a silly thread and you have your right to disagree and because some others agree with me does not make them dummies.

I have always been quite clear in my views that it was an award most deserved. You on the other hand have always tried to spin it so that the 'dummies' come to think the opposite. As for the truth, it's all about versions thereof, isn't it?

My skin isn't pierced! The day that happens because of words typed on a monitor is the day I go back to trawling the porn sites :D My skin is quite thick and I actually enjoy swapping barbs (with you in particular). Word play can be great fun when the 2 parties are on a roll :) What does bother me slightly is that mods PM me with pathetic warnings about winding individuals up when they are clearly disregarding the injured partys input in such threads.

I still don't see a problem with Israel getting their mitz-vahs on more nukes. They can only destroy the Middle East once and they have plenty enough to do that already

If I was able to supple nukes, I would be looking to redress the balance of power out there ;) I do have some 2nd hand nikes the Israelies can have though :P

Well, I know nothing of mods nor PM's. Suggesting that Volt gave you a cuddle though was bound to bring a response of one kind or another. Nowt ti do wit me, lad. :D

If you really believe that nukes for Israel is acceptable you're dafter than I thought. If you don't, why say you do ?

Getting so cold in there, I need a blow torch to warm up, not a cuddle :D

What I was saying was that they have enough of an arsenal already and that a few more isn't gonna make any diff. Or am I missing something obvious

edit: oh lordy, I just thought of something! Tell me I am wrong in thinking that you believe Israel doesn't really have nukes already! :o
