hello all i need a little help with my homework i thought because we have so many members maby one of the could help me

1. why is zinc never found native

2.which metal is best for making sucepans zinc, iron or copper? explain

sodium, magnesium, zinc, copper

3.describe the reaction of these matals with

a.water

b.dilute hydrocholoric acid

point out how the reactions illustrate the change in reactivity

thanks a lot ( this is not cheating because she said we can use the web )

Ye gods!! That brings back horrible memories!!!

I would just like to say that the copper bottomed saucepans I've got take MUCU longer to heat up the contents than the all steel ones. :rolleyes:

Zinc is an element

but is found as an ore, Zinc sulfide, which needs be smelted to produce the near-pure metal

2) Too much zinc is bad for you. Food cooked in zinc saucepans would eventually make you ill. So would copper saucepans. Iron saucepans are the safest and most durable. Copper-based saucepans heat faster but food should not come into contact with copper.

What is the health risk of too much zinc?

Zinc toxicity has been seen in both acute and chronic forms. Intakes of 150 to 450 mg of zinc per day have been associated with low copper status, altered iron function, reduced immune function, and reduced levels of high-density lipoproteins (the good cholesterol) (34). One case report cited severe nausea and vomiting within 30 minutes after the person ingested four grams of zinc gluconate (570 mg elemental zinc)

3 Reaction of sodium with water

Sodium metal reacts rapidly with water to form a colourless solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and hydrogen gas (H2). The resulting solution is basic because of the dissolved hydroxide. The reaction is exothermic. During the reaction, the sodium metal may well become so hot that it catches fire and burns with a characteristic orange colour. The reaction is slower than that of potassium (immediately below sodium in the periodic table), but faster than that of lithium (immediately above sodium in the periodic table).
