If not and you intend to spend serious money, have lessons at night school or join a club. Do this BEFORE you lay out the dosh, so that you will know what facilities you really want. Do you want to point and shoot, or do you want to bracket exposures? Do you want a large zoom, do you want lightning quick exposure, do you want the facility to use an independent flash? Only had it 6 days. They can be more complicated in some respects than an SLR using film. I don't use mine every week so to speak, and still have to check something in the manual now and then. Lot's of ?'s to ask but you're words are wise andsome, what I'm after is something which will give me extra optical zoom but I'm going to hang fast and be happy with what I got and if I'm still using it as much this time next year, then I'll see. :) Great advice though. Thanks. A very sensible decision. If and when you upgrade don't be seduced by a large digital zoom, it's the optical zoom which serves you better. An optical zoom changes the angle of view and fills the screen with a smaller area of the scene, therefore making it larger. A digital zoom merely enlarges each pixel in the centre of the scene, therefore making it look larger, but as the angle of view is the same as before, you loose detail.
